the madrigalist Luca Marenzio, or Marenzi (born in Coccaglio on October,18th, 1553 - passed away in Rome on August,22nd,1599), had been an italian composer, chanter and lutenist. He'd been one of the most popular madrigalists of his times. His compositions are considered one of the most mature and perfect depositions of the peculiar features of the profaine renaissance vocal polyphony, very rich in madrigalisms. His fame is, infact, strictly connected with the madrigal genre, which takes up most of his musical production, carried out in about two decades of activity during which he produced ten books on five-voices madrigals, among which one of them was spiritual.
