Garibaldi Mountain Shelter facing D'Avio Valley is located close to Lake Vernocolo and right in front of the majestic north wall of Mount Adamello (3554 mt.). The old Garibaldi Mountain Shelter, situated in the Venerocolo Basin at 2548 mt. above sea level, was built in 1894 thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of many members of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). The old shelter was running till 1958, when it was then flooded by the lake generated along with the new dam. In 1959 the present shelter was inaugurated, built by ENEL (National Italian Power Company) to replace the old historical shelter.
